Getting started
You need the Jira Administer Jira global permission.
1. Install
Install Rule Keeper from the Atlassian Marketplace (Jira settings → Apps → Find new apps → search "Rule Keeper"). Atlassian starts a free trial. The app needs no configuration and makes no outbound connections.
2. Open the app
Jira settings (cog icon) → Apps → in the left sidebar under Apps, click Rule Keeper. Polish interface: Ustawienia → Aplikacje → Rule Keeper.
3. Load your rules once
Choose one:
- Manual upload (two minutes, nothing to install): export your rules in Jira and paste the file in the Upload tab. Step by step: manual upload.
- Scheduled sync (optional): run the small
rule-keeper-synctool on your computer or CI with your own API token, for example daily. Step by step: sync tool.
Each upload or sync creates a snapshot. If nothing changed since the last one, Rule Keeper only records the confirmation date, so your history keeps the real changes.
4. Get the cost forecast
Open the Cost tab:
- For each product your organisation uses (Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence), choose the plan and enter the number of users, or type the monthly step allowance shown in Atlassian Administration → Insights → Platform usage.
- Click Calculate.
- Read the summary (steps per month, allowance used, projected extra cost) and the Top step burners table.
How the numbers are produced: cost forecast explained.
5. Fix what Lint finds
Open the Lint tab. Start with errors (rules that cannot work), then the cost warnings (rules that burn steps on every event), then housekeeping. Upload or sync again after your changes; the Changes tab shows what you changed.
Uninstalling
Uninstalling the app deletes all data it stored (snapshots, settings, analyses, sync secret). Nothing is kept outside your site.
